Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. When she was five, she moved from London to Oxfordshire to attend The Dragon School. Emma decided to be an actor when she was six. Through the years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing as well as dancing, and also acting. At the age of ten the actress took part in and performed the main role in several Stagecoach School plays and productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) The movie version of J.K. Rowlings bestselling novel was cast for the first time in 1999. Emma was discovered by agent through the recommendation of her Oxford teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that following eight auditions, she as well as Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's screen debut was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's release in 2001. The film set records for beginning-day and weekend-opening sales and became the top-grossing movie of the year 2001. Critics praised the film and the performance of three leading young actors. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her performance. Emma received five awards for her performance in the film.
